(Muhammad Wajid Javed, M. Yaseen & Ahmed Muslim)

Marketing

It means to sale your good or service in the market (i.e. the last step and final destination of every production)

  1. Milk Marketing:Pakistan has one of the highest milk and dairy products consumption rates in Asia and is thought to be present among the largest milk producing country in the world with approximately 44000 tons annual milk production. Milk producer’s problem is marketing the milk, a highly perishable commodity. The Punjab’s Department of Dairy Development and Livestock is collaborating with the Idara Kisan (IK), a non-profit organization active in the procurement and marketing of milk to ensure fair rates. Some other programmes of livestock market development are also being adopted by the government , time by time.

Different dairy industries in our country are:

MilkPak Limited Sheikhupura , Pakistan Dairies Sahiwal, Milkways  Tandlianwala Nestle Milkpak Limited Sheikhupura, Nestle Milkpak Limited Kabirwala, Haleeb Foods Limited Bhai Pheru, Haleeb Foods Limited,R.Y. Khan, Nirala Dairy Pvt. Ltd. Tandlianwala and Engro Foods Ltd,  Sahiwal.

Milk marketing is generally affected by:

  1. Season (availability of plenty of milk)
  2. Market competition
  3. Rate of milk
  4. Payment system (direct/banks)
  5. Payment duration (immediate, after week, after fortnight)
  6. Company strategy.
  7. Raw milk receiving parameters
  8. Quality

Milk may be marketed in 3 ways:

1.      Self-marketing

2.      Selling to a contractor

3.      Selling to a company(DAIRY INDUSTRIES)

An exemplary view of marketing can be best understood by recalling the following data:-

Hence, it is more profitable to sale the milk by yourself rather than marketing to a company or contractor.

  1. Dairy Products Marketing:

Dairy products, such as yogurt, cheese, butter, ice cream are marketed by different companies as Nestle, Haleeb and Yummy etc.

  1. Animal Marketing:

This sector of marketing in animal business usually involves their sale for the sake of meat production. On international level, Pakistan may be a good exporter of meat, if it will adopt certain strategies regarding the demand and supply of international meat market. Following table reveals the market supply of meat at international level:

Marketing of livestock business also  relates to the culling (i.e. selling) of unproductive animals in the farm. These may include adult cow, buffalo, sheep, goat etc. Sometimes young male calves are also marketed. They are mainly meant for the production of meat after slaughtering.

Conclusion:

Conclusively, our country is rich in livestock wealth but the need is to manage it on sound basis. This can be done by adopting good hygienic conditions, proper feeding, selection of excellent animals and proper management practices.

“A land rich in everything but poor in livestock is really poor. But a land rich in livestock and poor in other things is really rich”
