A batch of cashew butter sold in 14 states is being recalled because the product does not warn that it also contains peanuts, posing a health risk to people allergic to peanuts.
Jars of Woodstock Old Fashioned Cashew Butter, Unsalted, that have the lot number X371 printed on the label are being recalled because people who are allergic to peanuts could have a serious, even life-threatening, reaction to the product. The manufacturer of the cashew butter, Stow Mills of Chesterfield, N.H., has learned of one such allergic reaction to the peanuts.
The company said that consumers could return the cashew butter to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
Several thousand jars were shipped to stores, mostly health food outlets, in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
