Factors Influencing Drainage and Drainage Properties of Soil

Factors Influencing Drainage:

1. Topography of the affected area of the adjoining watershed which contributes flow of the problem area.
2. Soil characteristics.
3. Rainfall and other climatic factors.
4. Crop factors.

Drainage Properties of Soil:

Soil needs artificial drainage for following reasons.

1. Where, there is a high water table that should be lowered. 
2. Where, excess surface water cannot move down ward through the soil or over the surface of the soil fast enough to prevent the plant roots from suffocating.
