Tehsil Chichawatni is one of the tehsils of District Sahiwal which is situated at renowned Grand Trunk (G.T) Road approximately 230 KM from Lahore to Multan and is surrounded by Tehsil Sahiwal from east, Mian channu from west , Arif wala and Burewala Tehsils from south and  Tehsil Kamalia and river  Ravi  from North. There are two prominent folk etymologies for the name chichawatni.

Tehsil Chichawatni is one of the tehsils of District Sahiwal which is situated at renowned Grand Trunk (G.T) Road approximately 230 KM from Lahore to Multan and is surrounded by Tehsil Sahiwal from east, Mian channu from west , Arif wala and Burewala Tehsils from south and  Tehsil Kamalia and river  Ravi  from North. There are two prominent folk etymologies for the name chichawatni. The first asserts that the 7th century Raja Dahir named the town chichawatni meaning city of “Chach” for in further Maharaja chack of alor after passing by it during a hunt.

According to 2nd etymology the name is derived from a Hindu family who lived in the area in antiquity with father of family being named Chicha and the mother Watni. The major crops sown on vast area are Cotton, wheat , Rice , Maize , Sugar cane and potato but oil seed , pulses and vegetables are also sown on small area. Tehsil Chichawatni is imparting a major role in crop production and economy of the country.

Major source of income of population is related to agriculture, livestock and poultry. The major source of irrigation is canal , however, underground water is also used to supplement the requirement. Mostly cropping intensity is more than 200%.

Generally Jat, Arain, Gujjar, rajput, Kathia and Awan are major casts in Chichawatni. Literacy rate is some what good than surrounding Tehsils and number of big dignities belong to this city.

Last but not least Chichawatni is famous throughout the country due to Buffallow breeds.
