Wheat Traders Association of Pakistan (WTAP) has expressed surprise at the incorrect reports regarding potential shortage of wheat and increase in prices and buying by exporters and traders, says a press release. Secretary WTAP Saleem Ahmed Nooruddin in a statement to the press issued on Thursday strongly emphasised that currently small or minor exports are taking place in containers or small random ships, which are negligible in the overall wheat scenario of Pakistan or its trade.
WTAP members have reported that they are not aware of any heavy buying by stockists or exporters as Pakistan is currently completely priced-out of the export market. He further said that WTAP would welcome any statistics or names of vessels etc, for export buying. He further elaborated that WTAP in fact has been requesting for incentives so that they are able to export wheat for the last several years, Pakistan has lost its glory which was gained when we exported over two million tons, 4 years back in one year.
Small negligible tonnages hardly constitute wheat exports. He clarified that the wheat traders and exporters are neither stocking nor buying large quantities for exports and “we would be happy to hear any information regarding this otherwise”.-PR
