Stoppage of water KBP warns of blocking Indus Highway

Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has warned of blocking the Indus Highway on February 22 if water is not released in Rojhan Qadra Canal, immediately. The KBP General Secretary Malik Muhammad Ramzan Rohari talking to a group of growers from Rojhan here on Monday alleged that crops including wheat, sugarcane, fodder and others were drying because of closure of water in different canals of Rojhan and Rajanpur district.

He stated that there were apprehensions of missing the wheat production target of this area while perturbed growers were forced to leave. He claimed that canals of the district had not received water from last three months due to which a drought like situation was prevailing in the area and both animals and human beings were longing for clean drinking water. KBP Secretary General said that growers were hitting hard economically as their one crop was destroyed by flood and other ruined due to negligence of canals department. He said irrigation department and district administration was responsible for closure of canal water, water theft etc.

Absence of water in Rojhan and Rajanpur canals was not only destroying crops over hundred of thousands of acres of land but also turning the land barren. Malik Muhammad Ramzan Rohari announced that if water is not released in canals of Rojhan immediately then the Board would stage a sit-in on Indus Highway on February 22 and block the traffic.
