Recent rains beneficial for crops: Mughal

  • Agriculture Forum Pakistan (AFP) Chairman Dr Ibrahim Mughal has termed the recent spell of rain in Southern Punjab as very beneficial for standing crops and hoped that it would result in increasing the per acre yield.

Talking to media persons here on Monday, Ibrahim Mughal said that at present wheat crop is standing over 20 million acres of land in the country, Channa at 2.5 million acres, mustard and canola at 800,000 acres and fodder and other crops over one million acres of land in all the four provinces. He said that these crops were deprived of irrigation due to closure of canals and load shedding of electricity.

However, recent spells of rains would benefit to these crops and their yield could increase from 4 to 5 per cent. He said that wet land will also facilitate the growers to use urea fertilizer for these crops to maximum and help them to save on diesel charges.
