With a slight decrease in prices of chicken, eggs and vegetables, rates of other essential kitchen items remained stable last week against the preceding week, a survey carried out by Business Recorder showed here on Saturday. Traders and wholesalers in different markets of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad said that prices of cooking oil, sugar, and wheat flour remained stable last week against the prices prevalent in the preceding week.
The survey noted a slight decrease in prices of chicken and eggs. Chicken was being sold at Rs 148 per kg against Rs 160 per kg last week, registering decrease of Rs 12 per kg and eggs were being sold at Rs 80 per dozen against Rs 85 per dozen last week with the decrease of Rs 5 per dozen. The survey noted that a tin of cooking oil (2.5 litres ) was available for Rs 527, vegetable ghee (2.5 kg) was available for Rs 505, but vegetable ghee (loose) was available at Rs 159 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week. Sugar was being sold at Rs 51 per kg, a 20-kg wheat flour bag was available at Rs 670-700 and fresh milk was being sold at Rs 65-70 per litre last week against prices in the preceding week.
A slight decrease was also noted in prices of some vegetables last week against the preceding week, as tomatoes were available for Rs 55 per kg against Rs 60 per kg last week, onions were being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 40 per kg last week, cucumber at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 65 last week, cabbage at Rs 30 per kg, potatoes at Rs 30-35 per kg, carrot was available at Rs 30 per kg and radish at Rs 30 per kg last week, as compared to the preceding week.
However, fruit prices remained stable last week against prices in the preceding week. Kinow was being sold at Rs 70-120 per dozen, fruiter at Rs 70-80 per dozen, ”shikary malta” was being sold at Rs 120-150 per dozen, apple at Rs 120-140 per kg and banana at Rs 60-100 per dozen last week. The survey noted that meat prices also remained stable last week against the preceding week. Meanwhile, prices of entire range of pulses remained stable last week.
