Rains with snowfall likely to continue

Scattered rain with snowfall occurred in Upper Punjab including Islamabad, Malakand, Hazara division, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan dropping the temperature up to 10 Celsius degree in these areas on Thursday.Agriculture experts said that these light rains have very good effect on the Rabi crops including wheat, grams, lentils, canola, vegetable and fodder crops as the irrigation canals have been closed for past 20 days in Punjab and crops needed watering in the mid of January. 

Meteorological department said that a fresh western disturbance is affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist for next two days. It recorded rain as follows: Malamjabba 22, Kotli 20, Pattan 15, Jehlum, Mangla, Garidupatta 12, S.Sharif, Rawalakot 10, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala 09, Islamabad 06. Kalam, Drosh & Mandi-Baha-ud-din 05 (each), Faisalabad, Chilas, Mirkhani, Sukkur & Jacobabad 03 (each), Lahore A/P, Padidan, Gilgit & Kakul 02(each), Lahore city, Bunji, Larkana, Mohen-Jo-daro & Rohri 01(each). 

Wide spread thunderstorm/ rain with snowfall over the hills is likely to occur over Malakand division and Gilgit-Baltistan today. Fairly widespread thunderstorm/rain with snowfall over the hills may occur over Kashmir and upper Punjab. Thunderstorm/rain with snowfall over the hills may occur at scattered places of Peshawar, Mardan, Hazara, Kohat, D.I.Khan divisions and southern Punjab. Also, thunderstorm/rain with snowfall over the hills is likely to occur at isolated places of eastern Balochistan and Sindh. While mainly cold weather is expected over rest of the country.
