Rains develop breach in canal

Crops standing over 100 acres came under water when a 10-foot breach developed in Shakh-i-Madina canal in the suburb of Multan at midnight due to heavy rainfall. According to the police, heavy rains developed breach in Shakh-i-Madina canal of Qadir Puran in wee hours, damaging crops over 100 acres. Irrigation authorities said that rescue operation was being launched inspite of heavy downpour. 

However people of the area on self-help basis tried to plug the breach with sand bags but failed. The operation was kicked off in the morning. The affectees said that water is continuing to flow through the breach which could damage more agricultural land.
