With the arrival of new potato and tomato crops, their prices have dipped in local markets substantially. Retail prices of potato has registered a sharp decline and is being sold at Rs 30 to 35 per kg depending on its size. Old stock of potato is available in the market at Rs 20 to Rs 25 per kg. The retailers said that potato and tomato are available in the wholesale market is huge quantity whereas it demand is low as compared to supply which has pushed the prices down.
Sellers are compelled to sell their products in the market at lower prices due to the vegetables’ short shelf life. The price of tomato has dropped from Rs 70 per kg to Rs 20 to Rs 22 per kg depending upon the locality where it is being sold. The decline in tomato price is attributed to fresh yield in the market from interior Sindh and Balochistan. Price of banana rages between Rs 40 to Rs 60 per dozen, Kinnow Rs 60 per dozen, apple Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kg.
