Prices of most of the essential kitchen items remained on high side, as no decline was observed in prices during the last week as compared to the preceding week, reveals a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Saturday. Traders and wholesalers in different markets of the twin cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad revealed that the current rains and floods destroyed vegetables and fruits in some parts of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
They said that flour prices increased by Rs 2.5 per kg during the week past as compared to the last week and 10-kg bag was available at Rs 425 to 435 depending on quality. Egg prices increased by Rs 10 per dozen and were available at Rs 112 per dozen, however chicken prices declined during the week as it was available at Rs 170 against Rs 180 per kg in the preceding week.
Ghee/cooking oil, sugar and meat prices remained unchanged during the week past as compared to the last week, survey noted. The survey observed a mix trend in prices of vegetables. Tomato was being sold at Rs 100-110 with no change, onion at Rs 60-55 against Rs 50 per kg, potato was available at Rs 60-65 per kg (no change), arvi at Rs 60 per kg, cucumber at Rs 70-80 per kg, carrot at Rs 100-120 per kg and ladyfinger at Rs 80 per kg during the week past.
A slight increase was observed in fruits prices, as mango was available at Rs 80-120 per kg against Rs 80-100, banana at Rs 140-180 per dozen, guava at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, apple at Rs 100-200 per kg depending on quality, peach at Rs 80-100 per kg and grapes at Rs 200-280 per kg against Rs 250-300 per kg during the last week as compared to the preceding week.
Meanwhile, prices of entire range of pulses remained stable last week as compared to the preceding week, as mash washed was available at Rs 140-160 per kg, moong at Rs 130-150 per kg, masoor at Rs 120-130 per kg, while basmati rice was available at Rs 90 to Rs 135 per kg and super colonel at Rs 120-155 per kg during last week with no significant change in prices as compared to the preceding week.
