Pakistan has a huge potential to earn foreign exchange via export of poultry products as local companies have achieved excellence in high levels of quality and international standards, Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khan Khosa said on Friday. He was talking to media at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day International Poultry Expo 2012.
Stressing the need for taking solid steps to promote poultry industry, he said that it was Pakistan’s second biggest industry, which was providing livelihood to 1.5 million people. He said that the government should not be held responsible for every fault, adding that the private sector should come forward to help the government overcome the energy crisis.
The inaugural session was also addressed by the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) Chairman Hassan Sarosh Akram and Chief Organizer of the Expo Khalid Saleem Malik. Meanwhile, while visiting different stalls, the Governor Punjab appreciated organisers of the expo and said this expo would pave the way to uplift the industry. Awards were also conferred for excellent performance during 2011-12, including Adil Sattar of K&N’s who received an award for producing best chicken products. Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan is scheduled to visit the expo on Saturday. He is also scheduled to inaugurate K&N’s cooking competition. Khalil Sattar, along with other distinguished guests, will distribute gifts among winners of the cooking competition.
