Pida sets up about 120 FOs in DG Khan

The Punjab Irrigation & Drainage Authority (Pida) has constituted as many as 120 Farmer Organisations (FOs) in Derajat Canal Area Water Board, Dera Ghazi Khan. Meanwhile, Irrigation Management has also been transferred to these FOs besides allotting offices for managing routine affairs. 

This was stated by General Manager Pida Mian Maqbool Ahmed while presiding over a departmental meeting at Pida Head Office on Monday. The Pida GM apprised the meeting about the constitution of 120 FOs through elections and added they had been included in the Irrigation Management as well. 

He said those FOs, after the constitution of Irrigation Management Units, had been allotted rest houses for use as offices. The FOs have been asked to open their accounts and a decision has also been taken to provide furniture, office equipments and other necessary items so that they could work diligently. Mian Maqbool asked the Pida staff to guide the FOs in their work so that they could efficiently serve the farming community at the grassroots level. 

He further said that various issues pertaining to management, technical and revenue might be included in the training workshops to be held for improving the capacity building of these FOs. The meeting was attended by DGM (TM) Afzal Anjum Toor, DGM (Operation) Mian Abdul Rashid, DGM (Social Mobilisation) Shaiq Hussain Abidi and concerned officers of the field staff.
