PGJDC helps 60-member delegation attend IIJS

Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) is facilitating a 60-member delegation from Gems and Jewellry industry of Pakistan to attend IIJS 2012 (India International Jewellery Show), Mumbai, India from 23rd to 27th August.

The Pakistan Delegation is being led by Ex-Senator Semeen Siddiqui, Chairperson PGJDC Bakhtiar Khan, CEO PGJDC, Abdul Jabbar, Member Board of Directors and Chairman All Pakistan Gem Merchants and Jewellers Association (APGMJA) are also the part of the Delegation representing PGJDC. The Delegation comprises of leading Gems & Jewellery entrepreneurs/traders from Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Swat.

The second largest show in Asia, IIJS 2012 is the 29th Edition organised by India’s apex body for gems and jewellery, the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India. The show has the participation of over 800 companies from India and overseas. The weeklong show has a congregation of delegations from trade associations across India and from a host of international destinations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Dubai, Hungary, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Belgium, Israel, Turkey, UAE and 15 International Contingents.

Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce & Industry along with Rajiv Jain, Chairman, GJEPC and Sanjay Kothari, Vice Chairman, GJEPC inaugurated the show through a lamp lighting ceremony followed by a guided tour of the show area. This is the fifth time PGJDC is facilitating the Pakistan Delegation of Gems & Jewellery entrepreneurs/traders to India. The Delegation will further study the Indian market and its dynamics and gain insight on its value chain and the overall working of the Indian Gems & Jewellery industry. Business/trade will be developed and strengthened leading towards investment opportunities in Gems & Jewellery sector between the two countries. Contacts will be further developed between the two countries for capacity enhancement in areas of technology up-gradation and skill development.

The Delegation is holding meetings with the counterpart organisations and trade bodies including Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) to discuss and explore opportunities and avenues of co-operation and collaboration for the mutual benefit of the sector/industry in both countries. In addition to interaction with the participants of the show, the Delegation is visiting factories, export processing zones, technical and academic gems and jewellery institutions in Mumbai, New Delhi and Jaipur.

Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company is the subsidiary of Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation under Ministry of Production, Government of Pakistan. The charter of the Company is to enhance the value chain productivity of gems and jewellery industry of Pakistan from mine to market. The Company aims to increase exports through facilitation, technology up-gradation, skill development and marketing/branding initiatives. With adequate support from Government of Pakistan, PGJDC is successfully realising these objectives and providing required infrastructure for the gems and jewellery industry of Pakistan.-PR
