Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) will hold youth conference on January 19 to motivate youth in agriculture development activities. “Youth from all over the country including students of different agriculture universities and research institutes will be invited to the conference,” an official said. It was decided in the Provincial Agriculture Research Co-ordination Committee (PARCC) meeting presided over by PARC chairman Dr Iftikhar Ahmad here on Friday.
He said that the meeting also decided that funds will be provided for betterment of livestock, horticulture and cereal in the country under Agriculture Innovative Program (AIP). The meeting was attended by eminent scientists from all provinces and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), who stressed the need for introducing modern technology and knowledge among formers in the country, he said.
The official said the meeting decided that Agriculture Development Board (ADB) will be set-up in all provinces under AIP program recently launched by PARC in co-operation with USAID. He said that the meeting also decided that PARCC meetings would be held in all provinces in order to ensure better co-ordination among research and policy making institutes and agriculture departments. “The PARCC meetings in all provinces would not only help ensure better co-ordination among different departments, but would also help improve ideas sharing regarding agriculture development in the country”, said Dr Iftikhar Ahmad.
The official said that the meeting reviewed the progress of Kharif crops 2013 and Rabi Crops 2013-14. The water situation, development of management strategies for climate change impact, declining biological resources, energy crises, alternate energy sources, management of degraded land, value addition and commercial innovation in horticultural and cereal crops, development of high yielding hybrids varieties of various crops, animal and fisheries production, HRD and other related issues were also discussed in the meeting, he said.
