Panjab agriculture department sets up fair-price shops

Agricultural Marketing wing of the Punjab Agriculture Department has announced that quality daal chana, basin, rice and different vegetables will be available at fair price shops being set up by the department during Ramazan at lesser rates than the open market. A spokesman of the department said that quality daal chana will be available at Rs 80 per kg, basin at Rs 82 per kg while potato, onion, dates, banana, bitter gourd and some other vegetables at 15 per cent less than the open market rates.

The spokesman further stated that the government would set up 322 Ramazan bazaars across the province with an allocation of Rs 4 billion to provide daily use commodities to the masses on cheaper rates. He said that one fair price has been set up by the department in every Ramazan Bazaar. Staff of the agricultural marketing has also been appointed at these fair price shops to ensure supply of these items with focus on quality, weight and wholesale rates and to resolve any complaint in this regard.
