Normal water levels in major rivers

All major rivers are flowing below low flood level, however river Kabul is in low flood at Nowshera, Flood Forecasting Division said here on Monday. It said 2,59,400 cusecs water is flowing in river Indus at Tarbela, 48,200 cusecs in River Kabul at Nowshera, 37,000 cusecs in river Jhelum at Mangla and 69,100 cusecs in River Chenab at Marala headworks. 

Out of the daily flow of 259,400 cusecs in River Indus , the water regulatory body Irsa is discharging only 110,000 cusecs water downstream the Tarbela dam and retaining about 150,000 cusecs water in the dam. The Tarbela dam is now just 20-ft below its maximum storage level of 1550 ft. However Mangla dam is 64-ft below its maximum level of 1242 ft. Irsa has so far stored about 9 MAF water in the reservoirs. 

SIGNIFICANT FLOOD FORECAST Moderate flooding is likely in hill torrents of D.G Khan & Rajanpur districts and their surrounding areas during 1700PST of 27-08-2012 to 0300PST of 28-08-2012 

SYNOPTIC SITUATION Seasonal low lies over Northwest Balochistan. A shallow trough of westerly wave still persists over northern parts of the country. Monsoon currents are continuously penetrating Upper and Central parts of the country. Yesterday’s trough of westerly wave over Northern parts of the country today lies over Kashmir & adjoining areas. 

FORECAST FOR TODAY Isolated rain/thundershower is expected in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Sahiwal, D G Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Kohat, Bannu, Hazara, Zhob, Sibbi divisions and Kashmir on Monday night. 

Rain/TS likely in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Hazara divisions and Kashmir on Tuesday. 

WEATHER NEXT 48 HOURS Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country, however rain/thundershower is likely at isolated places of upper Punjab and Kashmir. Monsoon activity is likely to decrease. 

WEATHER PAST 24 HOURS Rain-thundershower occurred at isolated places of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, D I Khan, Sibbi, Zhob, Multan divisions and Gilgit-Balitistan
