Drip and Sprinkler Irrigation Systems would be installed on 7,000 acres in 14 districts of Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur and D.G. Khan Divisions under a mega irrigation project Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project (PIPIP).
This was disclosed in a high level meeting chaired by the Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad, says a spokesman of the Department. Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali, Director General (Ext. & AR), Punjab, Ch. Muhammad Ashraf, Director General (Water Management), Punjab, M. Rafiq Akhtar, Director Agricultural Information, Punjab, Executive District Officers of Agriculture and District Officers of Agriculture Extension and on Farm Water Management of Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan and Sahiwal Divisions participated in the meeting.
Director General (Water Management), Punjab told the meeting that drip & sprinkler irrigation systems would be installed in all Districts of Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan and Sahiwal Divisions on 1850, 1800, 2150 and 2150 acres respectively under the project PIPIP.
He further said that balloting for providing 350 laser land leveling units to the farmers at subsidy under the project has been scheduled during third week of September 2012.
Dr. Muhammad Anjum Ali while briefing about provision of tractor under Green Tractor Scheme told that more than 258,000 applications have been received and tehsil wise transparent balloting is being scheduled on 1st October.
He stated that Punjab Government will provide 20,000 tractors to young farmers under Green Tractor Scheme 2012-13 for which the total subsidy of Rs 4.00 billion will be provided. He further said that a training workshop will be organized on 17th October for DDOs of respective tehsils and lucky winners of Green Tractor Scheme will get the tractors up to 31st December.
Secretary Agriculture, Punjab directed to exert concerted efforts to control CLCV attack on cotton crop and to ensure achieving production target of 10.05 million cotton bales and provide all necessary guidance against CLCV.
He further directed field staff to provide guidance to the farmers to control insect pests through good agricultural practices and motivate them to adopt high efficiency irrigation systems for judicious use of available irrigation water and productivity enhancement.
Secretary Agriculture also hold a meeting with Commissioner, Bahawalpur and DCOs of Bahawalnagar, R.Y. Khan and Bahawalpur Districts and reviewed implementation of various farmer friendly initiatives of Punjab Government.
