Mangla Dam IRSA further cuts water outflow

As the irrigation canals remain closed for annual desilting in the month of January, the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) further reduced water outflow from Mangla dam on river Jhelum to the level of 5,000 cusecs decreasing the hydel power generation capacity of the country from 6,400 MW to paltry 800 MW on Monday. 

According to January 20, 2014, rivers flows and reservoirs level report of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) 14,900 cusecs water in running in Tarbela dam on river Indus against the out of 12,000 cusecs. 10,000 cusecs was flowing in Kabul at Nowshera and 5,300 cusecs in river Chenab. 

It said 22,700 cusecs water is flowing in river Indus at Jinnah barrage, 20,000 cusecs at Chashma, 20,300 cusecs at Taunsa, 26,300 cusecs, at Guddu, 5,000 cusecs at Sukkur and 3,965 cusecs and Kotri.
