Irsa reduces outflows from Tarbela by 20,000 cusecs

Indus River System Authority (Irsa) reduced water outflows from Tarbela dam by 20,000 cusecs on Wednesday as Punjab had reduced its water indent by 55,000 cusecs after closure of six monthly non-perennial canals in the province.

Wapda engineers told Business Recorder that Irsa curtailed water releases from the Tarbela dam from 80,000 cusecs to 60,000 cusecs whereas upstream running water in the Indus river dropped to 39,500 cusecs with the setting in of the winter season in the upper regions of the country. Water inflow in other three main live rivers has also decreased, Kabul at Nowshera 10,200 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla 14,500 cusecs and Chenab at Marala 14,400 cusecs.
