Inland fish farming to be promoted across country

A well-knitted plan has been evolved for the promotion of “Inland Fish Farming” business across the country. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Sunday that currently as many as 13, 000 (thirteen thousand) fish farms are exists and more than 50, 000 (fifty thousand) people were engaged with fish farming in the country. Provincial Fisheries Department has adopted concrete steps for the promotion of fish farming and providing fish seed among the interested persons in the Punjab. Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) had prepared a feasibility report to facilitate the interested for setting up the inland fish farming in the province.

Three modes like extensive fish farming, semi-intensive fish farming and intensive fish farming are indicated but semi intensive fish farming is more viable keeping in view economic, technically for attaining the requirement results. Nine acres of land is sufficient for developing a fish farm wherein eight fish ponds could be constructed for fish farming sources disclosed.
