Import of tractors: government urged to impose 10 percent duty

Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) has demanded of the government to immediately impose ten percent duty on import of tractors in order to further enhance the sale of locally manufactured tractors and bring down its prices. In a statement issued on Friday, PEW President Dr Murtaza Mughal said that imposition of 10 percent duty on import of tractors would go a long way to strengthen local tractor industry.

“There are duties on the import of buses, cars and motorcycles but the import of tractors is exempted from any duty,” Dr Mughal said, adding that there was also no trend in the world to give subsidies on foreign products but the government was providing Rs 20,000 subsidy per tractor.
