Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised the growers of off-season vegetables to complete sowing of capsicum, green chillies and egg plants from September 01 to 20, in the tunnels established for this purpose. In an advisory issued here on Friday, PAD spokesman further advised that nursery of green chillies and capsicum should be planted under net. He said tunnel sowing is being promoted for availability of summer season vegetables earlier than the season and more per acre yield.
He said vegetables sown in tunnel should be covered with a plastic sheet during the severe cold and foggy season so as to maintain appropriate temperature in the tunnel. It helps growth continuation of the plant despite severe cold, the spokesman added.
