Floods: KBP urges government to declare calamity-hit areas

Kissan Board Pakistan (Central Punjab Wing) has urged the government to declare flood-affected areas of the province as ‘calamity hit’ and immediate compensation to affected ones of Nullah Dek, Ravi and Chenab. The demand was raised at a meeting of the Board held here on Friday with KBP Central Punjab President Noor Elahi Tutla in the chair. The meeting reviewed the damages caused by floodwaters to the crops, property and livestock in the rural areas. 

The meeting demanded that the government should immediately declare flood- affected areas as calamity-hit zone and pay compensation to the affected ones. It also demanded that agricultural loans of the flood-affected should be written off. Vaccination should be provided to save animals and human population from different epidemics. Cleaning of dykes, spurs, water courses, semi nullahs and strengthening of embankments of canals was also demanded by the meeting. 

Participants said that the growers should be given free of cost fertilisers, pesticides and seeds in the flood-hit areas and arrangements should be made for discharge of water from the fields. Addressing the participants KBP Central President Sardar Zafar Khan directed all the KBP office bearers to submit a report about details of flood-affected and also extend all out help to them. He also constituted a five-member committee to visit all the flood-hit districts and submit a report to the Provincial and Central leadership.
