The present soil and atmospheric conditions are suitable for rapid weeds growth and pest attacks on standing crops, as farmers are advised to be vigilant to protect their harvests. Met Office issued farmer advisory asking the farmers to make arrangements against the pest attacks on their crops during the current season. It said the weeds could also damage the health of crops.
As monsoon rains are expected in different parts of the country in the next 10 days, the office urged the growers to take timely measures to protect their crops, livestock and other property. “Farmers of cotton and sugarcane crops of lower areas are advised to irrigate crops as per requirement as dry weather in lower half of the country in the next 10 days,” it said.
Growers of upper half of the country are advised to complete sowing of Kharif crops in time to utilise fully the present soil moisture especially growers of maize crop in rain-fed areas. The office has advised farmers of rain-fed areas, who rely on water from tube wells to schedule the irrigation crops according to the expected weather in coming days.
