Energy crisis caused irreparable loss to economy: chief minister Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that energy crisis caused irreparable loss to national economy and left a negative impact on industrial and agriculture sectors while trade and economic activities also suffered. He said business and economic activities can be promoted by controlling the problem of shortage of electricity. 

He said Pakistan Muslim League-N government is determined to overcome energy crisis and measures are being taken on war footing for this purpose. He said industrialists and traders should present practicable proposals for dealing with the problem of shortage of energy and the government will seriously consider them so that the nation could get rid of energy shortage. 

He was talking to President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Farooq Iftikhar at Model Town on Sunday. Member National Assembly Perviaz Malik, Co-ordinator to Chief Minister on Energy Shahid Riaz Gondal and Iftikhar Bhatti were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said energy crisis badly affected industrial process and poverty and unemployment increased. He said there is a need to evolve an effective strategy and adopt comprehensive measures on emergent basis to cope with this problem. He said PML-N government is making serious and sincere efforts to resolve energy crisis. He said poverty and unemployment can be controlled by promoting trade and economic activities. He said uninterrupted supply of power is essential for continuity of industrial process. He said foreign and local experts are being consulted for resolving energy crisis and success will be achieved through continuous efforts. 

President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Farooq Iftikhar said industrialists and traders fully support the government in resolving energy crisis and will extend all out co-operation for this purpose. Co-ordinator to Chief Minister on Energy Shahid Riaz Gondal said PML-N government is sincere in resolving the problems being faced by the country and its efforts for ridding the nation of energy problem will yield positive results. 

Meanwhile, various delegations called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at Raiwind. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said peace is essential for rapid development and progress. He said controlling of poverty and unemployment and maintaining law and order are the priorities of the government and it will take all possible measures for this purpose. He said that economy can be strengthened by motivating local and foreign investors to invest in Pakistan and it is possible only through improvement of law and order. He said solid measures are being taken for strengthening economy which will also provide relief to the masses. He said PML-N government executed mega welfare projects whenever it came into power and people will not be disappointed this time as well as the government will come up to their expectations.
