Chief Justice Lahore High Court Umar Ata Bandial here on Friday sought reply from the Federal government in some identical petitions seeking construction of Kala Bagh Dam (KBD) till October 17. Chief Justice expressed concerns that the government was not showing seriousness for filing a reply on this project of public welfare.
Lawyer Syed Feroze Shah Gillani and other filed these petitions submitting that former caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Wapda ex-chairman Shamsul Mulk had said that KBD was not an issue of Punjab alone but a matter of the country’s survival. He said that the province of KP suffered the most due to delay in construction of the KBD. He submitted that if this dam was constructed then water would be available for vast tracts of land in the KP at affordable price because the water level would be high enough to irrigate the farms.
