Crackdown against gas thieves welcomed

Pakistan Steel Re-rolling Mills Association (PSRMA) has welcomed crackdown against gas thieves and assured the government of its full support to eradicate the black sheep that are destroying the entire steel sector besides causing billions of rupees financial loss to the government.

PSRMA Chairman Ali Ahmad in a statement on Saturday said the Re-rolling Association had been calling for since long now for a strict action against power and gas pilferage as those pilferers had forced the honest millers to close down their operations. “How an honest steel miller can compete with one who is manufacturing products without paying a single penny.”

The Steel Re-rolling Mills Association would never come in the way of an action against such influential who were damaging the country for the ulterior motives, Ahmad Ali said. He said “had an action been initiated some time back, the emergency situation would have not been so alarming, adding that SNGPL authorities should avoid any pressure in this regard and should continue its action for the sake of industry.

Meanwhile the Chairman Steel Re-rolling Mills Association urged the gas authorities to ensure equal distribution of gas to all industrial sectors besides taking private sector for being the main stakeholder on board while evolving load-management plans as the shortage of gas and electricity had become the prime issue for the industries where power and gas were an essential input of the manufacturing process.
