Completion of canal project: farmers assured of abundant supply of water

Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mian Yawar Zaman has said that canal water will be available in abundance to the farmers of district Okara and Sahiwal after the completion of Lower Bari Doab Canal Improvement project with the co-operation of Asian Development Bank. 

He said Punjab government has started a number of such farmers-friendly projects in the province due to which farmers will become prosperous. He said this while inaugurating the projects of cementing various canals and water channels under Lower Bari Doab Canal Improvement Project at Chak No 68/4-R and 57C Plot Pul Bagri Yousufwala near Okara. 

Talking to the farmers, Yawar Zaman said that Lower Bari Doab Canal Improvement Project is being completed due to the efforts of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He said that after the completion of this project “Warabandi” will end and judicious distribution of water to the farmers of tail-end will be possible. He said that Punjab government is pursuing a comprehensive policy for the welfare of farmers. He said that more than 1,000 cusecs water will be available to the farmers of the area due to completion of this project. MPA Pir Khzar Hayat Khagga thanked Chief Minister Punjab for fulfilling the long standing demand of the farmers of the area by cementing canals and water channels.
