Chicken price goes up by Rs 100 per kg

Price of chicken meat has increased by more than Rs 100 per kg. Chicken meat’s sellers attributed the hike to rising demand during winter, weeding season and supply and demand gap. Chicken meat is being sold at Rs 320 to Rs 340 per kg in retail market in different areas of the city. A few weeks ago, chicken price was raging between Rs 200 per kg to Rs 210 per kg. 

A customer at a chicken shop disturbed by the inflated price of chicken meant said: “The concerned authorities should closely monitor the official price of the commodities and impose heavy fines and punishment on the merchants who increase the prices arbitrarily.” It is a general trend in Pakistan that overwhelming majority of consumers purchase chicken meat in bulk and stores in refractor and fridge piecemeal. The farmers claimed that feed prices have registered around 82 percent increase in recent past.
