The price of chicken meat has registered a decline in the city owing to reduction in demand due to prevailing law and order condition that kept buyers away. The decline to the level of Rs 190 per kg from Rs 240 per kg was registered in last two weeks, traders said.
However, some of the retailers said the prices of live bird and its meat were declined to attract buyers to purchase more and more as the sale of chicken meat declined sharply after due to day today closure of market on strikes and frequent firing incidents. They expressed hope that with the reduction of price the demand might increase substantially.
The broiler live bird is tagged at Rs 128 per kg and cull birds live at Rs 72 per kg at wholesale. At retail the broiler live bird is tagged at Rs 130 per kg and cull birds live at Rs 74 per kg. Karachiites consume around 400,000 poultry birds daily when prices were high but the daily demand reaches up to 450,000-500,000 birds when live bird and its meat prices declined.
