Agri Forum Pakistan (AFP) Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Mughal has called for ensuring use of quality certified seeds and improving application of fertilisers to increase per acre yield of different crops in the country. Talking to media persons here on Wednesday he said that the country had to produce 16 million bales of cotton, 7.5 million tons of rice and 70 million tons of sugarcane to reduce our trade deficit.
He said sowing of cotton, rice and sugarcane had started in the country and 75 percent of our exports rely on cotton and rice. He said the government should ensure sowing of cotton on 8 million acre, rice on 6 million acres and sugarcane on 2.3 million acres. He said that efforts should be made to have 30 maund cotton per acre, 40 maund rice per acre and 700 maund sugarcane per acre.
