Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday said that agriculture is the backbone of national economy and the present government has taken a series of measures to promote the agriculture sector in the country.Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is a party which has always strived to protect the interests of farmers and rural masses, he added. The Prime Minister expressed these views during a meeting with President Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), Ehsan Ul Haq and Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf here at the PM House.
The Prime Minister said that pro-agriculture policies of his government have yielded positive results and today Pakistan is exporting wheat.
He said that the provision of tractors to farmers on subsidized prices and increasing the support prices of the agricultural commodities and the recent approval by the cabinet for flat electricity rates for tube-wells have improved the life and standard of poor farmers.
