Advisory to farmers for next 10 days

Farmers are advised to take timely precautionary measures to protect their crops and livestocks during the current monsoon rains, the Met Office said on Thursday. In the farmers’ advisory for next 10 days, the office urged the growers to irrigate crops as per requirement keeping in view the hot and humid weather which is expected in southern half of the country.

During the dry and humid weather in monsoon season, the office said farmers of cotton belt should take in time precautionary measures to protect their crops from the pest attacks, especially Melay Bug, Jassid, Thrips and Whitefly. It said the recent rains in upper half may accelerate weeds growth in standing crops. Therefore, farmers should adopt manual methods or chemical spraying to uproot them.

It said weather in Punjab is expected to remain largely hot and humid during next 10 days. However, scattered rain/thundershower may fall in upper and central parts of the province and isolated rain/thundershower in upper parts of the province from August 25.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mainly hot and humid weather is forecast during the period. However, scattered rain/thundershower is expected in upper and central parts of the province from 1st half and isolated rain/thundershower is expected in upper parts of the province from August 25.

In Sindh, it said mainly hot and humid weather is expected during the period. However, it forecast light rain is expected in south-eastern parts of the province from August 21 to August 25. It said Balochistan weather is expected to remain mainly dry weather is expected during the period.

However rain/dust-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in the eastern parts of the province from August 21 to August 25. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, the office said mainly partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected during the period. However, it said widespread rain/thundershower with isolated heavy falls are expected in Kashmir from August 21 and isolated chances of rain/thundershower from August 25.
