21,000 metric tons of basmati rice exported during first week of March: Reap

This is to inform all the members of press and electronic media that Pakistan has exported 21,000 metric tons basmati rice during the first week of March, which is a positive sign and we are very hopeful to achieve the export target of $2 billion. This statement was issued by Jawed Ali Ghori, Chairman Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap). 

Ghori informed that during this fiscal year of July 2012 to 10th March 2013 Pakistan has exported 350,000MTs Basmati rice and 2.0MTs non-Basmati rice amounting 1.164 million dollars. He was quite optimistic that efforts are being made to achieve the export target. 

He further informed that Pakistani rice export to Iran has again revitalized and during the first week of March 2013 Pakistan exported 6,774MTs rice through Quetta border which is very positive signal for this trade. He added that some non exporter elements are creating ambiguity among the rice exporters about the export target. He stated that the hurdles which are creating problems in rice exports to various countries of the world including China are being identified and soon be resolved with appropriate measures. Ghori apprised that rice exports to Iran are now streamlined but due to the banking problems rice exporters are facing problems. He requested Governor State Bank of Pakistan to extend his co-operation to release the payments of Pakistani rice exporters from Iranian buyers.-PR
