International Year of Soils 2015

World Soil Day (WSD) is just over a month away! On 5 December, hundreds of events and initiatives will take place around the world to celebrate soils.

This year’s celebration is particularly important because WSD will also formally mark the closure of the International Year of Soils. On 4 December, a high level event will be organized at FAO Headquarters in Rome with satellite events also scheduled to take place in the FAO Regional offices. This will provide the ideal opportunity to present the main outputs of the IYS including the year’s most important legacy, the launch of the Status of the World’s Soil Resources report.

During 2015, a wealth of information material has been produced in the six FAO official languages and many others. This includes factsheets, infographics, posters, videos and educational booklets built around the six key messages of the year.

Learn about why healthy soils are the basis for a healthy life and join in the celebrations. Feel free to share the material and spread the word. 2015 may be over, but saving our soils should be a priority for everyone in the years to come.
