Pulses’ import surges by over 48 percent: PBS

Pakistan’s import of pulses increased by over 48 percent to US 41.831 million dollars in the first month of current fiscal year 2015-16, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) revealed. Growth in pulses import now stands at US 13.63 million dollars in July 2015 as compared to the commodity’s import of US 28.201 million dollars in July 2014-15, PBS mentioned.

In term of volume, import of pulses surged by 53 percent or 24,722 metric tons to 70,917 metric tons in July 2015 from 46,195 metric tons in July 2014. On a monthly basis, import of pulses declined by over two percent or almost US one million dollars in June 2015 from US 42.811 million dollars in June 2015, PBS said. Pulses import volume however grew in July 2015 by two percent or 1,088 metric tons from 69,829 metric tons in June 2014.
