PAD advises farmers

The Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised farmers to prefer canola on conventional oil bearing crops as it hardly contains anything harmful to health. A department spokesman said on Wednesday that Canola’s per acre yield and standard was better than mustard, rapeseed or any other oil bearing crop and it can be used as human food as well as for feeding the animals.
He said the best time for sowing was from last week of September to October 31 in the Northern Punjab and from October 1 to 31 for the Central and Southern Punjab. ‘The crop sown in first week of October is considered as safe from attack of insects,” he added. Punjab Canola and Faisal Canola are recommended varieties of the department for sowing while foreign hybrid varieties can also be sown.
