Flood situation improving in upper Sindh

The flood situation has considerably improved in the upper Sindh where flood water in the mighty Indus is sharply decreasing at Guddu and Sukkur barrages. According to 17th August rivers flows and reservoirs level report of WAPDA, the water inflow in the Indus river has dropped from 0.71 million cusecs to 0.5 million cusecs at the Guddu barrage. The running water in the Sukkur barrage has also come down to 0.5 million cusecs from 0.7 million cusecs.

The Flood Warning Centre Lahore said that River Indus at Kotri is in High Flood Level in the lower Sindh with the water flow of 0.63 million cusecs. The Sindh Irrigation department is throwing 0.63 million cusecs water downstream the Kotri barrage into the 60 mile long Indus delta. According to hydrological situation River Indus at Guddu and Sukkur is in Medium Flood Level. River Indus at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa, and River Kabul at Nowshera are in Low Flood Level. All other rivers are flowing normally.

Rivers: Indus at Tarbela; inflows 242,400 cusecs and outflows 242400 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 46,600 cusecs and Outflows 46,600 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 31,000 cusecs and Outflows 15,000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 79,600 cusecs and Outflows 54,300 cusecs.

Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 299,400 cusecs and Outflows 298,400 cusecs, Chashma: Inflows 351,600 cusecs and Outflows 346,800 cusecs, Taunsa: Inflows 341,000 cusecs and Outflows 321,500 cusecs, Panjnad: Inflows 107,400 cusecs and Outflows 95,300 cusecs, Guddu: Inflows 525,200 cusecs and Outflows 499,400 cusecs, Sukkur: Inflows 499,200 cusecs and Outflows 448,200 cusecs, Kotri: Inflows 634,900 cusecs and Outflows 603,100 cusecs.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR NEXT TWO DAYS: Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country. However rain thundershower is expected at isolated places in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir.
