Tarbela dam filled to its maximum level

The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has filled the world’s biggest earth filled Tarbela Dam on River Indus to its maximum level of 1,550 feet storing 6.77MAF water in the reservoir. Irsa is now releasing all the run of the river water downstream the dam for hydel power generation and irrigation purposes. 

Meanwhile the authorities have further reduced outflow from the Mangla Dam on River Jhelum to 8,000 cusecs to retain maximum water in the dam which is far behind its filling schedule this year. The water level in Mangla Dam is still 1,192 ft, 50 ft below its maximum level of 1,242 feet. 

MET OFFICE WEATHER FORECAST FOR TODAY Scattered thunderstorm/rain is expected over Lower Sindh, Kashmir, North & Northeast Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Isolated thunderstorm/rain is expected over Eastern Balochistan, South Punjab and upper Sindh, while dry weather elsewhere in the country.
