Sharp rise in vegetables prices

The prices of seasonal green vegetables, particularly potato, have shot up, by some 100 percent in the past few days. Retail price of potato has climbed to Rs 40 and at some markets to Rs 60 per kg. Best quality ginger was being sold at Rs 220 per kg in retail, while medium quality ginger was selling between Rs 190 and Rs 180 a kg in retail. 

Medium quality potato was selling at Rs 40 a kg in the retail market The price of best quality potato was Rs 20 per kg some days back. Onions also continue to be on higher side. The price of medium quality big onion was Rs 50 per kg. At present, retail prices of most seasonal vegetables range between Rs 50 to 80 per kg, “It is a blow for all. Even prices of essentials like tomato have increased to Rs 65 per kg and carrots, that just started arriving, were being sold at Rs 60 per kg It is very much easy to contain the prices of the items if the consumers bring a change in their consuming habits.
