Punjab Farmers Union has finally ended over 17 hours’ long protest and sit-in against agriculture tax and elimination of subsidy on electricity. The government officials assured the farmers that their all demands would be fulfilled and an official notification would be issued on next working days. They would be charged according to old rates of Rs 18,000 per tube-well and their other demands would be also considered, assured the officials to the agitating farmers.
The farmers agreed to end their protest and sit-in after getting promise from the concerned authorities. Punjab Farmers Union officially ended sit-in and cleared G T Road for smooth travel of the trapped motorists. The farmers have threatened on the occasion that if an official notification for approval of their demands will not be issued by the Tuesday, then they would resume their protest more robustly. Earlier, Punjab Farmers Union blocked G T Road in Okara and continued 17 hours long sit-in after protest against agriculture tax and elimination of subsidy on tube wells’ electricity.
