Punjab Agriculture Department has advised the growers from Barani areas of ‘Gram’ crop to pay attention towards eradication of weeds as these are growing at a very past face in the fields because of proper moisture but can lead to reduction in the production. Punjab Agriculture Department’s spokesman said here Tuesday that majority of the sowing of gram is done in Barani areas especially in Thal. As per statistics, last year Punjab produced 0.42 million tons of grams.
The spokesman urged the growers to do weed scouting first time after 30-40 days of growing of crop and second scouting after one month of the first scouting. He also advised the growers to do regular monitoring of the crop and spray pesticides with the consultation of local agriculture department’s expert in case of pest attack.
